5 Simple Ways To Deliver Images To Your Clients
1. APhotoClient - http://aphotoclient.com
Client image delivery created by us to work with your website and remain on your domain.
Pros: We built it and will continue to improve it. Clients can download, mark and comment on images.
Cons: Not free like the other solutions below. Not good for sending a large number of images to the client (350-1500).
2. Create an Adobe Lightroom Gallery. Go (here) to see how to do it. The ftp instructions are in your welcome email. All files go in a folder called httpdocs (make a folder in there to keep images out of your website files).
Pros: Free. Handles a large number of images well.
Cons: Clients can’t select, comment on or download high res of the images. You need Adobe Lightroom.
Note: We now recommend putting these files on a subdomain (e.g. clients.yourwebsite.com where clients is the subdomain) so they can be viewed on mobile devices. Fill out a support ticket to request a subdomain for your website where you can upload client images.
3. FTP Drop Box. Submit a help ticket requesting an ftp box you can use to transfer images to your client.
Pros: Free. Really good for sending final high res images.
Cons: Your client needs to know how to use ftp and will need the server address, username and password to log in. They will also need an ftp client to log in and grab their files (fetch, cyberduck, filezilla, transmit ($30)). You have to clear it out each time since you can’t change the password on your own.
4. Direct Link To A File You Upload. Using an ftp client (fetch, cyberduck, filezilla, transmit ($30)) login to the server using the server address, username and password we sent you in the welcome email. Go into a folder marked httpdocs (this is the root folder where your website lives). Now either drop an image file here or create a folder to put image files in (recommended). Send a link to your client using the path to the file: http://yourwebsite.com/filename.zip or http://yourwebsite.com/foldername/filename.zip When the client clicks the link the file starts to download automatically.
Pros: Free. Easy for dumb clients because all they do is click the link.
Cons: Will take awhile to download a big file with an entire shoot in it.
5. Hidden or Password Protected Website Galleries. Go (here) to read how to hide or pass protect individual galleries.
Pros: Easy to do. Clients can see the images huge. Clients will be on your portfolio site looking at the images.
Cons: Clients can’t download, mark or comment on images.
